Message form the Club President.
Hello, I want to welcome you to our
web site.
My name is Eric Shelton and I am president of the Kiwanis Club of
Albuquerque for the 2008-2009 administrative year. This year we celebrate
ninety two years of commitment and service to the City of Albuquerque. The
current generation of Kiwanians are as interested in service to our
community as the original charter members were over ninety years ago. That
commitment to service takes on various forms and is evident in many ways
throughout the city.
Through our charitable foundation we raise money that goes back into the
community in a variety of ways. From college scholarships for high school
graduates to Christmas toys for kids who would otherwise have nothing. But
this club is not just about raising money and writing checks. We have
outdoor fun, for example at our annual fishing derby for kids and the
Balloon Fiesta. We also believe in "sweat equity"; getting out there and
getting our hands dirty (sometimes literally), we help the Salvation Army
with bell ringing during the holidays, the Albuquerque Police Department
with a bicycle safety rodeo, the Albuquerque Public Schools with their READS
program, Science Fairs and Glasses for Kids. In addition, we are actively
involved with The Kiwanis "Young Child Priority One" YCPO program.
Our Monday meetings provide an opportunity to interact socially and to
listen to guest speakers that are informative, interesting and often
entertaining. If you are in business you can't help but network with other
business associates. We have in the past had political leaders from all
levels of government, professors from UNM on a variety of subjects, business
leaders from the Albuquerque area and community activists about timely
subjects.
I invite you to surf around our website, get to know us a little and then
contact us about being a guest at one of our meetings. I sincerely believe
it will be one of the best decisions of your life.
Eric Shelton
